Rooney penalty spot sale. Fan auctions turf from which Wayne Rooney scored goal that won Manchester United the Premier League. The piece of turf at Ewood Park from which Wayne Rooney scored Manchester United's Barclays Premier League winning goal is being auctioned on eBay.

Blackburn Rovers fan Eddie Maxwell dug up the penalty spot from the Darwen end of Ewood Park, the spot from which Rooney slotted United's equaliser last month.

Rooney's penalty secured United a 1-1 draw with Rovers and the point they needed to wrap up their record-breaking 19th league title.

Maxwell was given permission by Rovers officials to dig up the turf and sell it in order to raise money for his local Sunday League side, King Edward FC.

"I just thought, if you don’t ask you don’t get," Maxwell told the Lancashire Telegraph.

"They were happy for me to take it because it was all being dug up anyway.

"At first I was just thinking of taking the centre spot because any Rovers fan would be interested in that but then after the Manchester United match I wanted the penalty spot as well.

"It is a piece of football history – maybe Rooney would be interested in buying it."

At the time of writing, the bidding had surpassed £400 with a week left in the auction.
